National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception Our mosaic experts spent two and a half years installing this mosaic on domes located 90 feet above the cathedral floor. We managed the installation safely, without interfering with Mass-goers or their views of the altar. This unique material required hand-chiseling and blending to create the linear ashlar pattern from its seventeen distinct colors.
