Stone Fireplace Restoration
The Cosmos Club, Club Room Fireplace

This project is a real example of stone preservation. This wonderfully executed fireplace-surround was carved over 100 years ago, but at some point in this private club’s existence, it had been dismantled and stored in a crawl space.

The Rugo team carefully removed all the pieces covered with dirt and filth; then, each piece was cleaned and cataloged, missing parts identified, and each section carefully examined to strategize how to determine which restoration treatment was necessary. From this, restoration was performed, and the fireplace rebuilt per criteria established by Rugo and the Historic Preservation Committee of the Cosmos Club.

Rugo’s skilled masons installed the marble and decorative cast iron surround in its original location in the main foyer. The result; a classic treasure of marble craftsmanship restored for many to enjoy for years to come.
